Acid-base Composition of Pancreatic Juice and Bile

چکیده

Pancreatic juice contains fixed base at approximately the concentration found in the blood plasma. Chloride ion is present in concentrations varying from one-fourth to one-half the fixed base value and the remainder of the acid equivalence is composed of bicarbonate ion. Fixed base being a nearly stationary factor, variation of bicarbonate and thereby of alkalinity is referable to change in the concentration of chloride ion. In bile, as delivered by the liver, both the fixed base and chloride ion values correspond closely with their respective concentrations in blood plasma. In gall bladder bile, however, the concentration of fixed base is, roughly, double that in hepatic duct bile, and chloride ion has been almost entirely removed. From these data it may be inferred that loss of digestive secretions entering the duodenum will, in the absence of replacement of the materials contained, cause dehydration of the blood plasma and reduction of the plasma bicarbonate.

Physiological control of cholecystokinin release and pancreatic enzyme secretion by intraduodenal bile acids.

BACKGROUND The physiological relevance of duodenal bile acids in the control of cholecystokinin release and pancreatic enzyme secretion is still unknown. AIMS To provide a near physiological situation by perfusing a bile acid mixture mimicking the individual endogenous bile acid composition of the person under investigation. For maximal reduction of endogenous bile output the CCK-A receptor a...

Acidity & the Pancreas

Three main, interrelated reasons for widespread digestive disorders in the modern world might be chronic metabolic acidosis, low exocrine pancreatic function, and intestinal dysbiosis. Chronic metabolic acidosis mainly distresses two alkaline digestive glands: the liver and pancreas, which secrete alkaline bile and pancreatic juice with a great amount of bicarbonate. The acidic shift in the bil...

Chronic metabolic acidosis destroys pancreas.

One primary reason for the current epidemic of digestive disorders might be chronic metabolic acidosis, which is extremely common in the modern population. Chronic metabolic acidosis primarily affects two alkaline digestive glands, the liver, and the pancreas, which produce alkaline bile and pancreatic juice with a large amount of bicarbonate. Even small acidic alterations in the bile and pancr...

Partition of oleic acid between the lymph and portal blood in rats having a diverted bile-pancreatic duct.

The present study examines the suggestion that in the absence of adequate bile and pancreatic juice, which support the absorption from the gut of long-chain fatty acids into lymph, the fatty acids are absorbed directly into the portal blood. Oleic acid (18:1) partitioning between lymph and portal blood was investigated in intact and bile- and pancreatic juice-diverted rats. In a first set of ex...
